CARELESSNESS IN DRESSING IS MORAL SUICIDE

In an unjust society, silence is a crime. It’s appalling and worrisome to know that a lot of Akokites now categorize decent dressing as an old fashion. I believe there are other ways to tell the world that UNILAG, is the capital of fashion in Nigeria than gallivanting around with bare skin, neglecting the purpose of dressing which is to cover nakedness.

I once lived with a mass communication sophomore student that failed a presentation course because he put on a pair of trouser called “carrot” though he pleaded and went  to redress but it was too late to mend. One trend I have noticed is that most of us now  dress  to distract others in  the place of worship on campus, many attend the house of God attired the same way they would dress to a disco party but when it is time for final year project defense they dress up meaning they fear men than God.  If you want to be a voice in your generation start appearing like a serious minded fellow and not a prostitute, those that wear skimpy, transparent and thigh revealing dresses have little or no influence in the society, you can never see the cleavage of Queen Elizabeth, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Bukola Elemide  (Asa), Remi Tinubu, Onyeka Onwenu  and some other globally respected women.

Peer pressure is a force that gravitate friends together and most times for evil or negative tendencies. The desire to belong to the so called “big girls and big boys” groups and the fear of rejection have led many youths into evil or immoral acts, sometimes, against their will, some of them lack the strong will to say no to immorality for fear of being isolated but it’s shameful to see our supposed future mothers dressed half naked, womanhood is supposed to be respected and  some of these ladies are from well-disciplined family background whereas some elderly women that are supposed to be the custodian of our culture and morals are not left out of  this  norm.

Moreover, don’t sacrifice your future on the altar of temporary pleasure by the time you waste your seeds to different soil then you will start complaining about low sperm count when you get married. The most beautiful girl in 1960 is now an old woman, that they call you most beautiful is not a license to be using your dressing to constitute nuisance on campus. However, if men always harass you watch the way you dress though indecent dressing is not an excuse to be raped but it plays a role and if searching for a life partner is a reason why you wear cloth that expose the provocative part of your body I can assure you that only boys are attracted by such dressing and not husband.  Africa has a rich culture that need to be preserved, dressing   decently will not make you look older than your age as some youths think but it brings dignity, respect and reduction in the numbers of floozy on our campus.
